UPSET ALERT: Kartal Stuns Bencic at Wuhan Open...

Sonay Kartal beat ninth-seeded Belinda Bencic 6-0 7-5 at the Wuhan Open, marking a sharp return from a six-month injury layoff that dropped her ranking from a career-high 44 to 170th. The 24-year-old British player suffered a stress fracture in her back in March that sidelined her for most of 2026, but has now won four of five matches since rejoining the tour last month. Her win over the Swiss player—ranked 12th in the world and a Wimbledon semifinalist—stands as her second-biggest career victory by opponent ranking.
