Wave of Kindness: Strangers Rally to Help 86-Year-Old Build 62-Foot Boat...

Dale Garrett, an 86-year-old from Mineral Wells, Texas, has welded a 62-foot steel boat in his front yard since 1987, completing roughly 75 percent of a vessel designed with four staterooms for an Alaskan voyage. Age and physical limitations have stalled progress, and a steep embankment between the boat and the road blocks any attempt to move it without heavy equipment. Three English visitors—Laurence Benson, Benjie, and Will—recently learned of the project and showed up to see it themselves, moved by Dale's palpable commitment to finishing what has become a decades-long passion.
