A father of two opened fire on a teenage gunman inside Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon on Thursday, ending an attack that killed a 25-year-old special education teacher and three children ages 5, 8, and 11. Kaylub Giamanco, 36, retrieved his legally owned pistol from his car after spotting the shooter entering with a shotgun, then pursued and fatally shot him. The district also credited an unnamed learning specialist who directly engaged the gunman, and an educational assistant who was injured during the response. The community has gathered at a memorial outside the school to honor the four victims.
